Saying Goodbye to Lillian
Wow! Spring has sprung in our new location and there are SO many exciting things happening here - some brand new, some still in the works, some that we simply have not had the time to slow down and share. So, I'm beginning a series of update emails for you that will help bring you up to speed. We'll start by introducing the residents here you may not have met yet - but first, we have one sad update to share before we can get to everything else.
Our first rescue and beloved American Bulldog, Lillian, has crossed the rainbow bridge. 🌈
She had finally come to the end of her journey last month, and we made the hard, but completely correct, decision to help her cross the rainbow bridge before she truly began to suffer. Because I am always transparent here about the conditions of the dogs, I will share with you that in the previous 24 hours she had lost the ability to walk, stand, or even lift her head. Her legs, tummy, and bottom were swollen and whatever was happening inside her, the cancer had finally won. Our wonderful vet’s office gave us ample time to say goodbye to her and she went very peacefully, with us telling her how much we loved her.
I am heartbroken. Lillian was my first SH rescue and was very, very special to me. We had a special bond I will never forget.
In her memory, we have put our heads down and have been hard at work to grow Sammie's House in our new community. We are making connections and partnerships that, at the end of the day, will help us bring home more dogs just like Lillian.
